FACES OF TRAUMA. Clinical studies, theoretical approaches, historical and academic research 80 years after Ferenczi’s Confusion of Tongues

The Hungarian psychoanalyst Sándor Ferenczi presented his most seminal notion in the field of psychic trauma – the confusion of tongues concept – and initiated a paradigm shift in trauma theory 80 years ago. Since then a great body of clinical experience has accumulated and a number of new approaches and theoretical concepts have emerged both in clinical studies and academic research. The conference will be organized by the Sándor Ferenczi Society and the International Ferenczi Foundation in collaboration with the Hungarian Psychoanalytical Society (an IPA component society) and the Ferenczi Network. 6TH INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON THE WORK OF FRANCES TUSTIN

'On Bringing Patients to Life'

A Conference of the Frances Tustin Memorial Trust

in collaboration with

The Australian Psychoanalytical Society (APAS)

The NSW Institute of Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy (NSWIPP)

The Institute for Child and Adolescent Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy (ICAPP)

The Couple and Family Psychotherapy Association of Australasia (CAFPAA)

The life giving qualities of emotional receptivity in the therapeutic relationship offer the possibility for the child or adult trapped in a hard protective but isolating shell, to come to life.

On Bringing Patients to Life, the theme of the Conference, evokes the harsh Australian landscape with its red centre, the heart from which life erupts; where the searing heat of bushfires bursts open hard seed-pods and long awaited rains transform the parched desert into a sea of bloom.

European Perpetrators and Victims Then and Now: A Working Conference in the Series “The Past in the Present”

Europe today is still in the grip of its past, a victim of its history. The shadows and painful residues of World War II deeply affect people and nations across Europe and elsewhere. We invite you to attend a conference aimed at uncovering the impact of this historical trauma.

This conference will examine the impact of historical trauma as it appears in the way Europeans and others attempt to work together.

The conference uses a variant of the Tavistock Group Relations model, and builds on the work begun with Germans and Israelis and expanded to include Jews, Palestinians and others. The conference focus is on the exploration of experience in a variety of group learning opportunities. The task is to discover the links between personal experience, current tensions and historical trauma.
