Data Protection Policy

Introduction

 

The International Psychoanalytical Association takes privacy issues seriously and is committed to protecting information that it holds in its database about its members, IPA candidates, and other affiliated individuals. This policy explains what information the IPA has in its database about you, how that information is used, to whom it is disclosed and how it is stored and protected. This information is processed by IPA staff in its central office in London or on occasion by trusted third parties for example for congress registrations.

 

What information do we keep about you?

 

The IPA maintains contact details for you on its database –in accordance with the paragraph below entitled ‘To whom is your information disclosed?’

The IPA also collects other information about you, which will not be disclosed to others, such as any donations you have made, details of services you have requested from the IPA, including registration for conferences, purchase of publications and other such items.

 

How do we use your information?

 

The IPA uses your contact details to communicate with you and to enable you to get the most out of the IPA services available. For example, the IPA will use your contact details to distribute information about special programs, newsletters, publications, or Congress news. It will also allow you to register for conferences, make donations and buy products or other special services offered by the IPA.

 

To whom is your information disclosed?

 

Your name, office address, and office telephone will be available in the public ‘Find An Analyst’ part of the IPA’s Website. You will be able to opt out of providing an address by updating your contact information in the password protected area of the IPA Website.

 

It is a condition of IPA membership that your name, society, addresses, telephone and email are shown in the Roster. This information is held in a password protected area of the IPA Website. You can modify this information by going online to the IPA Website and changing the information yourself. If you have difficulty, you can be assisted by the IPA office.

 

The IPA may also share your contact details with IPA societies, psychoanalytic regional groups or other bodies which have appropriate relations with the IPA.

 

Each member, IPA candidate and other authorised individuals will have his or her own unique and secure password.

 

How secure is my information?

 

The IPA will ensure that your personal information is stored securely, using sufficient and up-to-date protection measures. On the IPA Website, your personal contact details will be located in a password-protected section of the site.

 

How can you contact us?

 

If you wish to change any part of your contact details, you can do so by using the IPA website or by contacting the IPA central office for assistance.
