Step-by-step guide to reviewing applications

1. Log in. If you have problems logging in please see the Logon Guide.

2. Click ‘No changes – continue’ OR if you make changes click ‘Submit changes’ 

3. Click on ‘My Reviews/review a submission’ you will then see the page Fig. 1 below:

From ‘Available Events’ select ‘Research’

At the foot of the page you will then see the application(s) assigned to you to review.

To see the full application (it’s the full application that is to be reviewed, not just the abstract) click on the relevant icon in the ‘Upload’ column. You will then be able to open or save the paper onto your own PC for later reading. Note: it is much faster to save the documents to your PC than to open it.

To enter your scores for the application you can either;

  • Click on the icon in the ‘Open’ column. This will give you a full page view with the score system to the left of the applicant’s answers to the questionnaire, including the abstract and summary (if required), or
  • If you prefer just to see the score section, you can access this by clicking on the title of the application.

You can now either;

  • If you think you might wish to revisit your scores, click on the ‘Save Current Responses’ button. In this way you can, after logging out, return to your scores at a later date, or
  • When you’ve entered your scores, and you’re confident that these are your final marks, click on the ‘Save As Complete’ button. Your work is now complete.

It is essential that in addition to your score that you provide written feedback to facilitate the applicant preparing revisions or perhaps asking for an appeal. It is therefore very important that your scores are actually consistent with what you write. If you provide only positive statements but score the application poorly, the applicants have considerable difficulty understanding your intent.  Please be as constructive and detailed in your reviews as possible.  Your comments will be given unedited to the applicant but your name will not be given unless you include it with your comments (not recommended).  Broad negative statements without specifics (such as "not sufficiently psychoanalytically focused") do not help applicants understand how to improve their work. In order to limit the work load both for you and for the Committee, the remarks box has been set with a limit of about 3000 characters including spaces, approximately 500 words.  Please do this using the ‘Comments or Suggestions for Applicant’ box only.

If you wish to make a comment solely for the Committee please use the ‘Additional Comments (Internal Use Only)
box.
