The IPA exists to advance psychoanalysis. It is the world’s primary accrediting and regulatory body for the profession, and our mission is to ensure the continued vigour and development of the science of psychoanalysis.
The IPA fulfils this mission through a range of activities, and through services to its members. Its activities fall under three broad strategic areas: Professionalism, Promotion and Participation.
Professionalism: To ensure the vitality, uncompromising ethical standards and excellence of psychoanalytic training and training standards, and continuing professional development of both existing and emerging component societies.
Promotion: To strengthen psychoanalysis and actively to encourage its promotion as a method of treatment.
Participation: To foster and enhance members’ sense of participation in and belonging to an international psychoanalytic organization and community.
