News Magazine (and Email Newsletter) Editorial Team Members

Mandate

The News Magazine (and Email Newsletter) is the official organ of communication between the IPA and its Members. The Rules (Rule 12, Section C) requires it to be published at least once per year. It shall be produced in the four official languages of the IPA. The budget allotted to the News Magazine (and Email Newsletter) shall be decided by the Board on advice from the Budget and Finance Committee after its yearly consultation with the Executive Committee on priorities for the coming year.

As the News Magazine (and E Mail Newsletter) are official Membership communications, the Board and Executive Committee reserve the right not to publish any article that they consider unsuitable for publication.

Within this overall context, responsibility for the contents of the News Magazine (and Email Newsletter) shall lie with the Editor who shall be appointed by the President of the IPA, in consultation with the Board. The Editor will serve until the end of each Presidency or earlier, should the President so decide. The Editor shall in turn recommend several Regional Editors - to be approved by the President - to assist the Editor in this work.

The editor shall ensure that the News Magazine (and Email Newsletter) meets the following objectives, in order of priority. (Information on committee work, events and activities, and news and information from Constituent Organisations may be included on the IPA website, rather than in the News Magazine or the Email Newsletter.)

  • To provide a forum for debate on current global or regional scientific and professional issues, challenges and insights in psychoanalysis (not otherwise addressed in psychoanalytic journals) to enable members to keep abreast of psychoanalytic developments.

  • To report on IPA decisions, events, activities, committee work and services, particularly a report on each Congress and Business Meeting, so that members know what the association is doing for them and to help them feel part of a global association.

  • To report on relevant forthcoming events and activities across the world, including news and information from Constituent Organisations, to assist members in their personal professional development.

  • To provide one issue a year of the News Magazine and up to three issues a year of the Email Newsletter in the IPA's four working languages as part of its global remit to enhance understanding across language barriers.

The Editor shall ensure that the News Magazine and Email Newsletter are produced as efficiently as possible, commensurate with the quality and length, from time to time agreed by the Board as part of the budgetary process. The Editor will conduct readership surveys not less than once every three years to ascertain members' responses to it, and publish the results of these surveys.

Reporting

The Editor will provide a report to the Board not less than once a year outlining the actions and achievements of the Editorial Team in pursuit of its Mandate. The reports will contain information on the editorial and publishing experiences since the previous report, and information regarding plans for future issues.

Term

The Editor and Members of this Editorial Team will be assumed to have submitted their resignations on the change of IPA administration in accordance with the Committees section within the IPA's Procedural Code.
